Setting goals can be tough. One of the most common pitfalls is setting goals that are unattainable from the onset. When we look at an overall goal or ideal habit, it can feel overwhelming and that feeling can prevent us from properly moving forward. Another issue is approaching goals as an all-or-nothing game. Realistically you will fall but it doesn’t mean you will fail.
This is especially important for people in recovery. The notion of quitting a harmful addiction for the rest of your life can be daunting. Each time you relapse, it can be soul-crushing. One of the tenants of the 12 Step Recovery programs is the concept of “Just For Today”. The concept, as I understand it, is that instead of viewing the overall goal (e.g. I will never drink again), you take things day by day. It’s easier to push yourself through to hold off on a harmful habit for one day; it’s near impossible to push through forever.
Reflective is a product of Fred (Not Freud), a company dedicated to creating tools that help people on their journey to a healthier life with a strong focus on mental health. Today we’re proud to announce the launch of another product. “Just For Today” is a chrome extension designed to help people get through their day.
The extension, which you’ll see every time you open a new tab, features a randomized inspirational quote. It also has a countdown timer that lets you know how much time you have left in your day. The background changes based on the time of day to add to a pleasant and calming user experience.
This extension was designed and built by Rivka Friedman, an intern at Fred (Not Freud). I think you’ll really like it. Please feel free to share it with anyone you think will benefit from it. It’s totally free.
